Forest Practice GIS Manager
The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) under its Forest Practice program regulates timber production on nearly 7.5 million acres of industrial and nonindustrial timberlands in California. The Forest Practice GIS Manager is responsible for overall Forest Practice GIS program direction and management of a staff of six full-time analysts and specialists, who manage spatial data representing commercial timber harvesting in California. The position oversees the development of web services, maps & analytics, and applications to support data access and distribution, decision support, monitoring, and ecological performance. CAL FIRE has an emergent enterprise GIS, and the Forest Practice GIS Manager plays a significant role in coordinating with other programs within CAL FIRE and defining GIS policy in the department. The Forest Practice GIS Manager reports to the Assistant Deputy Director over Forest Practice and will take on development of web based systems, enterprise application integration, and promote the use of emergent technologies.
