SRJC Summer Class - GIS Applications In Natural Resource Management

SRJC Logo Santa Rosa Junior College is offering an introductory course, NRM 87 -- GIS Applications in Natural Resource Management. This class runs from June 14th through July 25th and will be held at the Santa Rosa campus with additional field work at the Shone Farm. Taught by experienced SRJC instructor, Tim Pudoff, this course satisfies a requirement for SRJC geo-spatial and natural resource certificate programs, as well as being a primer for new GIS students.

Topics covered include an introduction to vector and raster data models, basic cartography, data development, spatial analysis, and the basics of field data collection. The course will be taught from the perspective of a natural resource manager or conservation planner with a particular focus on features within Sonoma County’s planning watersheds. Students will be taking an inventory of conditions using local data, and will examine the interrelationships between different types of human activity and the environment. New or returning students, staff at government agencies and employees in local business that have an interest in understanding how GIS data can be used to better understand the local landscape, are encouraged to sign up and participate!
